Yes, I had this fear of getting in trouble at school cuz I knew if I did, something far worse would be waiting for me at home. It was FAR easier to stay out of trouble.

I dont think u have to become louder as volume doesnt always make for a happy conversation. I think confidence is difficult at the best of times and probably the move has affected you more than u thought. I truly believe that your friends if genuine wouldnt make hurtful comment but would encourage u to join in, as for popular why is that a factor for choosing friends? If I was u take a step back from this pack and find the ones within the group who u are comfortable with and focus and contributing to the days chat eg girls football families music gadgets wateva! Build up ur contribution by practising then ull be able to contribute with them all, but dont tell them ur plan as u will be the source of fun and ridicule my friend. Seriously tho not sure if there friends for life but time will tell

In grade school I was, in junior high I was, in high school I was then I wasn't, then I was, then I wasn't, then I kicked into high gear and graduated almost a year early by going to an alternative school. When I graduated I was high school president and played the guitar for the teacher who sang the at our graduation ceremony. I'm so glad that I was able to get it in gear and graduate.
