Bad press, stereotypes, fear of the unknown. Just today, I saw a package of Halloween hand-outs with a label that read (among other things) "Gross! Disgusting!" Among the goodies were a couple realistic-looking plastic rats.
Often when I'm near the small animal section @ Petco, I overhear ppl saying things like "Eww!"
If ppl were to actually get to know some rodents, they'd probably change their minds. I used to be afraid of rats b/c when I was a kitten I was told they were vicious & untrainable. Eventually I discovered that they're intelligent, social & can be very friendly & affectionate. Although I admit to being nervous when I encounter a wild rat (which isn't often), we have companion rats & mice who we love a lot.

Most likey their parents, older sibling, friends, or someone they knew when they were little was scared of them.
In school last year, I learned that fear is actually an inherited trait. That babies aren't afraid of spiders, but might end up being scared of them later from other people around them.

What's not to get scared of them. They are No 1 in my scary scale :)

They are so cute, I have no idea why some people would be scared of them.

I really don't know why some are. They are more scared of us then people are of them.

I dont know , i Love them ,I have 2 albino Rats, and i use to have Gerbils and Mice, I want a polecat next.
