Agreed!
Respect cannot be demanded....it must be earned. I don't care how old you are....

Everyone gets older. Facing the truth about ourselves and those around us is what makes us wiser. Those who are older do however expect respect for their years and deserve it to a great extent. Showing respect does not mean that they are always right but rather that their experience is worth noting. If their advice does not measure up we can still respectfully disagree and ask questions (lots of questions) to clarify. When a person however pulls the condescending "Older and Wiser" card and yet it is obvious that they are dead wrong it is best to answer first respectfully with the truth in the form of a question. Who is older should know better but they often do not. Still, their observations can be very enlightening. The wiser person will not only learn from their own mistakes but also the mistakes of others.

I hope you are not talking about me. I did try to learn from all of my mistakes and there were plenty of them. Audacity? I don't demand respect....I just expect the younger generation to do their part like I did when I was so much younger. My Mother taught me to ALWAYS show respect to older/elderly people. I lived that way so, even though I am not perfect in my old age.....remember I have lived it.

Wisdom has not a lot to do with age.
I know many young people who are very wise and have made mistakes as we all do.
Respect is something that should be given to all people although it isn't always easy to do.
You do not know a man until you have walked a thousand miles in his shoes and that is how it will always be.
We all judge, we are all fools; I have yet to meet anyone who isn't and that includes me.

There is a famous quote, He who does not learn from his mistakes is bound to repeat them.
And I know a lot of old farts who don't seem to have learned a lot of things.
