Why did US government hide UFO details from us?

The government doesn't hide them, they just don't publically give them out. Under the Freedom of Information Act, you can write a letter requestion UFO information and you will get it. One man featured in Yahoo!'s People of the Web requested information over 50 times throughout ten years and had never been denied.

Your question presumes two things to be true which have little to no supporting evidence. If by "details" you mean "the real proof about the alien spacecraft."

1: There are "UFO details" in the posession of the US government.
2: The government is hiding those details from us.

If UFOs are not alien spacecraft, then there are no details to be had regarding them. If there are no details to be had, then the government can't be hiding them.

If you know of a particular UFO sighting and want the details from the government, submit a Freedom of Information request for it. They're generally pretty forthcoming with the info (i.e. they're not hiding it). If that info doesn't satisfy your yearning for fantasy-fulfillment, that's not their fault.

How about you show some believable evidence that 1: there are some such details in the posession of the government, and that 2: the government is hiding them. Then we can discuss "why."

Your question is not logical. There are no "UFO details" except in the minds of a bunch of crazies, so there's nothing for the government to hide.

Quite probably because at least some of the UFOs were actually top secret military projects.

I believe there's other life in the universe. I don't believe we're of any great interest to them. Given the Universe, visiting us would be like a Japanese tourist visiting New York City, and going to Queens to knock on a door of an average guys house. Why would he do that?

Im not talking about unidentified objects like kite or etc. Im reffering to UFO's from other planets of another galaxy/civilization that are capable of travelling here on earth using technology that is way more advance that we could imagine.

The bible didnt mention if there's life out there or none because the Bible is mostly about our relationship with each other and with our faith with God..So theres a gazillion possibility that theres life out there, hence the planets in the universe are more than the grains of sand here on earth.

Actually, I call them IFO's now. [alien space-craft] because they are now identified and some of them had crashed on earth and they had been here around 1940's since they were 1st spotted but government & military coverup is still present claiming UFOs as to be weather ballons or etc.

NOW THATS STUPID. do you think the government can just deny it easily and tell the public that nothing is up there? with millions of people that actually saw it, took pictures and etc?..

And yea, dont forget Feb 24,1942. Remember the 1942 los-angeles attack?.. military officials fired at UFO's, it was like a bunch of UFOs . The military claimed it to be UFO's at first. then the next day, it was published in the newspaper that it was a weather ballon.???.Over 1400 rounds of shell cant drop that weather ballon.FTW.. get outta here.:)

I believe the government didn't hide anything at all, but pretended to hide something and actually created the unknown objects to give the allusion that the US had in it's possession advanced technology during the cold war, and new sightings are really new experimental aircraft.

i believe that the US goverment probably already using the technology for space exploration. a potential evidence is a photo taken from NASA probe from Mars orbit. Someone uses high resolution photography technique and discover something that look like a skull and an artificially made installations on Mars. i can't remember the website though.
