China has been getting very bad PR (Public Relations) lately; for the past year---really strong now because of recalled products. I am finding myself turning down purchasing products made in China if there is ANY possibility that the materials used would be inferior.
For instance: Had to replace a skillet with a non-stick coating. All that I looked at (at Target) were made in China, with the exception of one pan manufactured in Italy. I elected to instead purchase a Stainless Steele skillet made in China (rathar than a non-stick skillet made in China). The difference is that I trust that the Stainless Steele would not be tainted or inferior.
I also BARELY purchase items from the 99 Cent store, since it seems that a huge % of their merchandise is China made; and so many have notes of "wash hands after handling". Pretty spooky; can't believe this store hasn't stripped it's shelves of these products!
Have you found that your shopping has changed over this?

The US has consumer laws set up to protect the public from dangerous materials or workmanship. Imports can slip by without any accountability. Would it not matter to you to know that the glassy firings on dinneware, if made in US is safe and free of lead poisoning? California tags materials made with hazardous, cancerous materials made into products. If you feel that WHERE makes NO difference, then it is your loss, as you are subjecting yourself to life-threatening chemicals that produce cancers, brain damage, and can be highly explosive or fire proned. Think this thru again, please.

I've already called several consumers and talked to the public relations people of several places on the labels. I don't buy from any foreign places unless I check first, I try to avoid them, so does all my family, I think we in America, should boycott these other third world countries. We don't need their products, we have our own "Buy American" is my motto.
Our school children were poisoned by Strawberries from Mexico because of the filthy habits they have with there own human watse with no concerns as to where these products are going. Many children across Michigan were ill over this.
Again, from Mexico, where else. Unless they have American regulators down there and show some concern as to what they do, let thier produce stay in Mexico, let them eat their own garbage,
This goes to China also. Our Government opened a free trade agreement to other countries, giving them an edge on our products. Now they've taken advantage on it and are killing off our people with their junk foods and products.
Now, the Mexicans can truck their products across our country on rigs that are unsafe for the highways, to where ever they want. The trucks are found to be unsafe but, we're turning our backs on them.
We can only hope the truckers of the U.S., the "Teamsters Union" stops this nonsense, I've already heard, any Mexican truckers coming to the U.S. will be facing their own safety and life, they better stay on their own side of the border.

My dog died from the recalled pet food. I certainly think something needs to be done. There was no way to know that the dog food I was buying had anything to do with China. I think I just assumed it was manufactured here. What's to keep it from being food for human consumption next time? I've been thinking in this direction for some time and I do check the "made in" labels but not religiously. I even got a some of those lead detecting swabs and checked all my plates etc. It is definitely something we need to think about, especially if we have children. God bless!!

I am absolutely boycotting, "Made in China" if it's a product or object I will be taking inside my home. I'm reading labels more than ever and if I can't find an indication of the country it was made in, I won't buy it.
I'm really surprised more people aren't doing it. Are we just too trusting that our goverment wouldn't let toxic products into our country? Don't we have enough evidence to the contrary?

I've checked for years. You'll need to shop at higher end department stores. You can buy a nice set or individual pots for about $20-$30 at Boscov's or Kohls that aren't made in China.
China, not only with their recent problems, but for years have been fleecing our country with their monetary system. They have bought up a ton of our debt, and with their new ways in world trade they are going to be very powerful soon.

Yes, I do check and sometimes, I hate to admit it, I buy from China. It's kinda hard not to, when so much comes from there, ya know? I don't prefer it, it's just there, everywhere!
Food items, I've very picky upon, since my cat died of food a few months back. When is it going to be our foods? Everyone knows it's going to happen, the question is, when?
I agree with you, it is VERY scary. And look, Christmas shopping is beginning. Are we going to be wrapping up lead filled toys, that we're going to have to yank from our kids hands Christmas morning, and return to the store? I'm sick of it!!!!!! They need to stop dealing with these problem countries, and put our products and jobs back in the good ol' USA. To answer your question, yes, our shopping has changed, drastically.

definitely I've been checking, however I only concern myself with the items the FDA mentions. Don't let this consume your life.
