It depends on what you call the south. In the Southwest Texas frequently show high school games on tv. In Southern Cal they have the game of the week in HS on tv

In Texas Friday night is high school football night and entire towns turn out to see the kids play. Local radio broadcasts it too. If they make the playoffs for a division championship I have seen stores close so they could attend that big game. In this part of the country it is a big, big deal. Keeps us out of the beer joints on Fridays too.

I can usually catch 2-3 HS football games a week out here in So Cal.

In Ohio, almost any network station has a high school game of the week every Friday night and most Saturdays

It is a religion here in the South. I don't like high school football, but people here will kill over it man. It is crazy. I love the college and pro level though.

San Diego has a live game of the week on TV and all of their championships on HDTV. They also have a one-hour recap show on Friday nights.
