No. An elephant cannot see straight down (which is why it's impressive when one puts a foot on a person or a ball) and if a mouse were to "run up its trunk" as the myth goes, the elephant would flick it away as it does anything that annoys it.

I thought the myth is that mice will run up the trunk from the inside and block the breathing. It is not true in any case.
