This bully really thought he was the toughest guy in school. He had us all in fear. He beat, kicked, and insulted me on a daily basis for 3 (gr8-10) years. All of the bullies and mean girls were no shows at my high school reunion. I was disappointed. Today, I'm 6 ft, 200 lbs, ex military, 4 year degree, and a black belt. I can beat him today. None of my old bullies will return my emails. I regret not fighting back in high school, and today's wannabe tough guys don't mess with me. I want to face my old bullies. The fear disappeared, but the hate just grew over the years.

You've hopefully got bigger fish to fry by now. The knowledge that you're tougher should be enough. Plus since they didn't come to the reunion they are probably already scared that some one like you would want revenge.

Face it head on! they can't hurt you anymore as you said,
who knows this person might even turn out to be a rather nice guy, with a great family ? let them know what this bully was like in school, then just maybe they will know where you are coming from. I would bet pounds to peanuts that they don't know that this loser was a bully,so enlighten them !!
I did it to a guy i went to school with, and when he saw me in uniform he walked out the door at my old school, you see i
was an Lt and a Military police officer .

NO, that guy isn't worth your time!
I had the exact thing happen to me when I was in elementary
school and, I told the guy and, his buddy that one day I would
grow up bigger then them and they both would laugh at me.
Now I'm 6'5@228lbs and by strange coincidence went into
my bank one day and thought I knew the teller but, I couldn't
figure it out until I got up to his window and read his name.
The look of FEAR on his face when I told him who I was could
not have been any more satisfying then the best beat down.
Let the hate go! Don't let it grow like a cancer inside you.
GOD says vengeance is his, HE WILL REPAY!

Let it go! If they don't want beef with you what does that tell you. You just might be one tough s.o.b. but that's no reason to go and pick fights! You all were children and now you must show your growth over the years and be the bigger man! Be a good roll model for the kids and take all that bottled up emotion and teach a self defense class to a grade school class! Good luck with that and don' t let those past emotions lead you down the wrong path and get you in trouble! I believe your better than that "Soldier"!

Bullies are bad news, but just leave it alone & go on. It's been 20 yrs, the bullies back then are probably totally different people now. And if they're not, they've probably already had the crap beat out of them a few times. Move on!

But lucky no one knows hows to fight then and now of days without some training(kicked their asses though). Maybe you could send them an e mail and tell them how you feel . instead of writing them and threatening them tell them how what they did really hurt you and how it still affects you today.
As for revenge, "Vengence is Mine sayeth the Lord" That means it is not your place to get revenge, but Gods . And as someone answered already, the best revenge is to live well. And that is so true. LIving well makes the enemy feel worse than ever.

Don't bother going to visit the guy. The person that bullied you has ceased to exist except in your memory. Even if he is still a jerk, he's a different jerk now. Move on with everything else around you.

You know it has been over 20 years. people tend to grow after high school. i doubt he thinks about you and really you should not give him a second thought. I don't see any good that would come out of confronting him. You really need to let it go. You will be a happier person if you do.
