we bought a computer from my aunt's best friend it was about 6 months old and everything was working when we moved it to my house we didn't have a desk 4 it so we put the computer moniter on the actual computer then when we tried to put cds in the cd drive it didn't work and still hasn't i was wondering if there was anything i could do to make it work

the tray does open but the computer doesn't read it

it worked once
Open up the computer, check connections
Find out the brand and model
Go to the website, download new driver
Scan for viruses spyware, defrag and do a scandisk
If all that fails it might be broken and should be Replaced

what doesn't work? will the tray come out when you press the eject button on it? if so it's either not hooked up inside or the cable came lose or the motor to eject it is burned out.
are you saying you can get the tray out and the cd doesn't spin to read the cd? are you sure it's not a dvd you placed in the drive? or is it a cd?
you can get a new one for maybe $5 from pricegrabber.com

If everything else appears to be functioning normally, it may need to be replaced. They are inexpensive, generally running less than 25.00.
Are the lights coming on at boot?
Do you see the CD drive under your 'My Computer' icon?
If the answer is no to both of those, then it is time for a new CD drive.

It is possible that you jammed it with the weight of the display on the case. You can try insertng a paper clip into the ejection hole on the drive and see if the mechanism still functions.
