I've been brutally honest, sometimes examining my motivations in past actions, and I've found myself wondering, "Why didn't I just lie? Who'll be the wiser?"

The answer, of course, is, I'll know. I've never been a good liar. But no one here can see my face turn red and my eyes start to shift side to side. I still can't do it.

Like you, I'm not a good liar and sometimes too honest. Once I was on an international flight and some form asked if you felt ill. I stupidly and too honestly said, "Yes." That stomachache caused the family-with two small children-hours of delay. Another disadvantage of being too honest is that your mind assumes other people are honest too. I think honest people are more easily fooled by the dishonest especially when it is someone they know well.

One can be honest without being brutal. Often it is not WHAT one says but rather HOW it is said.
Example: Your dear friend has on an horrific dress. It does absolutely nothing for her, however, you know your friend is sensitive and you don't want to hurt her feelings, not if you truly care for your friend. How do you tell her?
Do you say, "Oh that's just ugly, you should burn it"
Or rather, "You know what, I think the dress you had on the other day looks so lovely, it really makes the most of you, the one you're wearing, I don't really care for"
You've told the truth with compromising your integrity.
I believe it is possible to be truthful, honest and kind all at the same time.

I find the older I get, the more honest I get. If my sister or daughter ask questions like "Does this make me look fat, or flat butted or old", I answer honestly, especially if they're thinking of buying something. If I was asking them the same question, I'd want an honest answer. It doesn't always go over real well.
There are times when little white lies are easier and less brutal and I'm not above telling them but if it means someone may get hurt or spend money on something that looks horrible, I'll tell them.

I really can't believe that anyone tells the truth 100% of the time. You would hurt peoples feeling if you did. We call the little white lies. Like if someone shows you their baby and it is ugly. Do you say it is ugly??? no you say how sweet or how cute. I don't think this is really a hurtful lie. I have always told my children & grandchildren that if they are old enough to ask the question then I will answer it truthfully. If I think they are not old enough for the answer I tell them I will tell you when you are a little older.

Most of the times I am honest. Sometimes I just keep quiet to hide the truth if telling the truth doesn't help the situation for everyone involved. Some secrets are meant to be kept when they are not necessary.

Do not tell a lie, is a pet peeve of mine. Some times I can be brutaly honest, and sometimes I find it is just better to keep my mouth shut, rather than say anything at all. Expecially if it would hurt someone.

To be truthful is a very good quality. We always try to be truthful but sometimes we lie especially where there is no loss for any other but that also very little and where there is no solution just to hide.

I have a tendency to tell the truth all of the time. However, I know when to keep my mouth shut, too.

I feel that when I get to this age, I shouldn't have to lie to anyone about anything.

I don't consider keeping my mouth shut so that it doesn't hurt someone in a more delicate mental condition, a sin of omission.

I am an honest person but I dont tell the truth to offend. I would rather just stay quiet sometimes.

I tell the truth, with the exception of my opinion. Who am I to say tht those pants look dreadful on you, when maybe to someone else they look fine? Sometimes, it is better to have 'no comment', If I did something wrong, I just admit it.
