I'm gay, but I've never been to a gay bar. I'm really nervous because I'm worried that all gay guys there are going to be really flamboyant and over the top. Not that there is nothing wrong with that, but I just don't find that to be an attractive quality. I don't mind if a man is slightly femine, I just don't care for guys that are like transvestites or overly girly.

I went into a gay bar for the first time last year on my 33rd birthday. I thought the same things you are thinking. There were some flamboyant guys there (which I don't find attractive either) but everything else seemed as normal as a straight bar.
People go to bars for different reason: Some go to socialize with friends, some go just to get drunk, some go to dance, some go to find a hook-up for the night and some go just to show off.
I did notice that the guys seemd to go into the restrooms as a pair....haha...like women go to the powder room together.
It would probably be more fun if you went with a friend or two for your first time. The bar scene isn't really my thing but I don't mind going with some friends for a couple drinks and a game of pool.

Woah, first of all, you've got to calm down. Going into a bar with that attitude will only set you up for disappointment. You don't need to be attracted to the whole bar's populace, right? One guy a visit will probably do. :)
Also, do you think that straight men/women are all attracted to all the other straight women/men at the hetero bars they go to? No. Because attraction is a rare but wonderful thing.

The ones I've been in were just that: bars.
No, that's not entirely true. A couple of them near where I used to work were nicely laid out with comfortable lounging furniture in addition to the usual tables and chairs and barstools.
So what if some people are flamboyant? They're just having fun, and you can ignore it, you know. I've found it brightens my day to see someone so cheerful.

ROFL, I thought the same thing before I went to my first Gay bar. I had just got out of the Marines, (knew I was gay) and had never been to a Gay bar. I got there on sr8 time 8pm and was the only one there. (Gay time 12 pm.) By the time the Gay men arrived I was drunk at to my surprise they were normal just like me. I was in shock. Depends on the individual bar. I've been to some that are really fun, and other that just plain sucked. The only difference is that you see guys w/ guys and girls w/ girls. You also see a lot of heterosexual people there too.
