I'm a lesbian, but I don't get offended when people say that's so gay (unless they say it too much... now that gets annoying) because they're not trying to demean gay people. Gay has three meanings:

1. Homosexual
2. Happy
3. Lame

What's your opinion? I want to see if someone can change my mind ;]

nckmcgwn- you're right... me neither. I only started hearing it when I was 8 and it became "cool" to use it that way

Yes very, I hate it. What is Gay? Is gay something to be laughed at. I don't find laughter in the fact that thousands of Gay teenagers that kill themselves each year when they realize they are Gay after being taught it is a sin and they will go to hell for being Gay.

It's not cool it's ignorance and cruel to use such words. And the people that use it don't know how it effects the lifes of people around them.

Sad, very sad.

I find it offensive, the term "thats so gay" is just advocating the casual use of a term that demeans homosexuality.

The term was invented by idiotic homophobes who insist that homosexuality is a bad thing. I don't get mad at people for saying it because I understand its practically forced on youth now, but I still find it offensive.

If somebody used the N word which I will refrain from saying and claimed it just meant that something was stupid and that they didn't mean it as offensive to black people, would you put up with it? In my opinion it is ridiculous for people to claim that it's just "part of the English language now" and people allowing it to happen is just making the problem worse. While people still use a term like gay as an insult and people don't consider it offensive homosexuals will never truly feel acceptance.

It's said one by kids who have no idea yet what "gay" means.
And when adults say it I just find it offensive, because they are insulting gay people. "That's so gay" is translated to "that's so stupid or dumb" saying that you're as "lame" as a gay person, really. Same with "You're retarded" It really is an offensive term.

Things I would never ever let spew from my mouth.

Yes it's offensive, like referring to annoying/stupid things as "Jewish" or "black" or "like a girl" would be offensive. It's never a good idea to make a negative association with an entire group of people.

Furthermore, using the word "gay" pejoratively is indicative of a lack of creativity, intelligence and worldliness.

I never really get offended by anything that people say about gays. Even if they call someone a f@g as an insult it doesn't offend me. It just saddens me that they still think so negatively about us.

I disagree with cyanne2ak...I don't think when people say "Oh my gosh, I have so much homework. Thats so gay" that they mean "Homework is the equivalent of being a homosexual and homosexuals are stupid!" It has definitely taken on a different meaning, "stupid" or "lame." It seems like minorities are always trying to think of ways to point fingers at people, saying that theyre intolerant, when really, most of the time, that isn't the case.

Lame is offensive to disabled people. But then, who cares? Goring someone else's ox is always ok. Right?

I'm not really offended by it because it takes a lot more to get me offended, but I just think it's really stupid. What if I went around saying "that's so straight" to everything that was bad. It's just silly, and I do think that it does have homophobic undertones, which can be offensive.
