Well, WOW this is gonna be tough.

First we'll adress housing. You're right everyday more and more houses are offered up for sale AND right now the mortgage buis is really bad, most lenders have suffered a tremendous loss, and they are at fault for that loss.During the Re-finance boom, lenders were passing out ARMs like candy (Adjustable Rate Mortgage) they knew the rates would rise, but they kept pushing those ARMs onto people, then the bottom fell out of their bucket. The people that have had to give up their houses (most at a loss, couldn't sell for profit cus they owed too much) Well they rent now, i know 4 families that rent now AND they have to rent because lenders are being really really picky who they give mortgages to right now.
Employement, those who could not find a job during the un-employement benefit stage are now drawing government funds for food and utilities, honestly. they have to. there are no jobs, the summertime is when alot of companies re-evaluate their needs and hire additional people to fill those needs, a study said companies were going to hire 27% less people this year than last year.People today are faced with this = "If i stay un-employed and draw what assistance i can from local and state government, i can live. my bills will be paid, i will have food, my kids and i will have Medical coverage, but if i go and get a job there are no guarantees, I might be able to pay bills, i might be able to eat, and if i'm lucky health insurance through work will only take half of my weekly paycheck"

Debt-- People today spend $1.22 for every $1.00 they earn, how can you save when you spend more money than you make? the average balnace on a credit card today is over $12,000.00. Credit Card debt in the US is at an estimated 888 BILLION. out of 10 people 5 of them will re-finance every 4 to 5 years to pay down their revolving debt 3 will file bancruptcy and 2 will seek out help.AND the 5 who re-finance every 4 to 5 years, get married or have been married 3 times or more.

The job market is strong in Metrpolitan areas and thats just about it. where i live there are no jobs, our un-employment fell to over 6% just last week, they built an ethanol plant near our city/town, they said it was gonna do sooooooo much good for the local economy, but the fact is the people that own it don't even live near our city/town, this thing is huge BUT it only takes 35 people to run it, WOW what a big difference and one more thing out of the 35 people it takes to run it, 12 are from our city/town i know all 12 of them, One more thing the other people that work there are from a neighboring (1 hour away) city that has about 4 auto manufacturers and a whole bunch of other manufacruting jobs.WOW what a big impact that makes on our local economy.
.Sorry this is so long winded.

In the end the poor just keep getting more poor, BUT they fight and keep fighting.I was poor once i grew up poor, my mom would fight everyday for her booze and food for me, i think she even resorted to using herself to provide that from time to time, but the fact still remains she fought. Let me end with this, the poor survive being poor because of their hearts, did you know that the poor ( working poor and non-working poor) give more to charity than anyone else? They Have NOTHING but yet they reach into their pockets and give to others selflessly.

People need to rethink the term "survive". Survival means you have enough to eat and the bills get paid. It does not mean you can buy all the latest toys and drive an SUV. Too many people feel this sense of entitlement to what "everyone" has. This is where they run into trouble with debt-buying a big screen TV vs. not having the $ to eat or pay bills. There are jobs out there, but people don't want to do what they consider menial work-that's why all the illegal immigrants are employed. I have personal experience of this. I have lived on minimum wage with only a part time low hours job on the side. I had a decent apartment, a dependable vehicle and the bills got paid. It can be done. And if you can't buy gas to get to a job interview, take the bus or walk.

excellent question. for me, i have remained employeed but i have a low income. couldnt keep up w/the property taxes so i sold the home and used the money to pay off the property taxes, had a few thousand dollars left and bought an old mobile home. i am in my 50s and i think about that question alot. i have no insurance. everything gets more expensive but my i dont get cost of living increases or any raise at all. i am a server and get alot of low tips. many say thank you for the good service but they think a buck or two is fair. people take the fact that prices rise, out on the servers where they can control how much service costs. anyway, i dont know what is going to happen next. i'll be watching for answers. tks for asking the question

First of all. That bothers me so much also! In Chicago we did have housing projects for the poor.Thousands lived there. They were unlivable! They destroyed them! I remember them putting some in great new homes! But where did the rest go? There is a income source for them threw social security. It is called S.S.I Supplementary Security Income. And the disabled people who can't work are in even more trouble. The disabled on social security receive such a low amount,I don't know how they can find housing!

Amen.

To answer your question, the poor just continue to be poor, living day to day hoping that they will have food on their plate.

I'm so glad someone finally pointed this problem out.
