This whole NYY-Bos rivalry is more intense in recent years. I think the Dodgers-Giants in the past was better as both vied for the NL pennant year after year esp. in the '40s thru '60s.

The hatred of the Yankees in New England (other than Southern Connecticut) is difficult to express or to put in terms of other rivalries. Yes, the Cubs--Cardinals and Dodgers--Giants are also great historical rivalries, but it is hard to explain how much New Englanders hate the New York Yankees. As for the Giants--Dodgers, it seems like the Padres--Dodgers is starting to supplant the Giants in the last 3 years. Yankees and Red Sox goes back generations. It's something that your grandfather tells you about--how the Yankees grabbed the pennant from the Red Sox in 1949. Everyone knows about Bucky F. Dent in 1978 and Aaron F. Boone in 2003 and Pedro's heroic performance in game 2 of the ALCS in 1999. Yes, the Yankees have many more wins and that is part of the rivalry. It's what makes the Red Sox fans Red Sox Nation and the Yankee fans the Evil Empire with all the storm trooper connotations from Star Wars. Hope that helped.

The Yankees - Red Sox, is the biggest; but in the Mid-west, its the Cubs - Cardinals. Dodgers-Giants was very big, actually hostile, when the two teams were in NY, but I don't think they have much of a rivalry in CA.

Two things you have to remember about Yankees-Red Sox. One, there's over a hundred years of history in this rivalry. Two, geography plays a major factor. You have to look beyond the total number of wins at factors like history and geography to determine how good or bad a rivalry is.

I agree with you 100%. I've always said, how can it be called a rivalry when the Yankees win 95% of the time? I think it's Boston and it's fans that seem to generate the perception of a rivalry. The reality of it is that Boston and it's fans are just "Yankee wannabees" and are jealous of the Yankees success.
