Does anyone know of any herbal/over the counter medicine for anxiety (with depression)? I know there is St. John's Wort but because of my birth control I can't take that. I've also read of "Stressezz and True Calm." Do those things actually work? I'd rather stay away from prescription medicine since I don't have health care coverage right now. Thanks.

St. John's Wort will relieve depression symptoms for a couple hours, maybe three. Then you get a crash. If you increase the frequency of the doses, you will eventually crash anyway. As you say, it's a no-no with birth control.

Talk to a doctor. Herbal remedies are NOT tested by the FDA, often not even by the company that distributes them. If you get your birth control at a women's clinic, someone there, an RN, for example, could walk you through some options for depression symptoms. If you think your depression is not just situational, do not rely on natural/herbal remedy vendors. Talk to an RN or an MD.

I am so happy, it was only a 35 minute drive ( 70 minutes total) but absolutely no sign of anxiety or panic i shopped till I dropped - brilliant! I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway

Just about all of the meds such as valium, xanax, etc has a sedating effect (since they are mainly prescribed for anxiety). Your doctor may try prescribing a mild anti-depressant. Sometimes remaining on one can in time help to ease the anxiety (which can be caused by depression). It is really hard, but you just have to keep trying different ones to find the "one" that works for you. I wish you the best of luck!
