Two party system? Wow do you not know your facts. There are three main parties in government and about a dozen others. Some members of parliament are independent.

The royal family carry out an historic role (Something a yank will find hard to understand). Whilst they are paid from the civil list this is in return for the vast majority of the Queens estates, palaces etc having been handed to the state and they represent billions.

Far better a two house system with a monarch than the way the US is set up. A president with almost dictatorial powers who governs with unelected political appointees. Two houses that clash and do not have any real power.

Frequently federal employees pay is held up because the President and Congress are at odds over signing the bill!

A Head of State is still required, even with a democratically elected Government. They need to have the power of veto on law passing, and be able to perform ceremonial duties. Many European countries such as Sweden, Denmark, Netherlands etc have a King or Queen. Other Republics such as India and Singapore have a President that serves this role, whereas a Malaysia has a Sultan.

The American democratic system puts more power into the Presidential role, and has the checks and balances performed by the Congress.

Brings in the tourists. They are mainly ceremonial these days. We have deprived them of their royal yacht, the royal train, all royal allowances for anybody but the most senior royals have been banned and if I had my way the Queen would fly British airways. When Prince Charles becomes King that will be a very rough ride for the monarchy, but you Yanks seem to love all the pomp and circumstance when you cross the pond.

Just remember one more thing, Queen Elizabeth has been our Monarch since 1953 and she meets the Prime Minister once every week, she is also entitled to know all the state secrets our country has had for the last 54 years, that is a wealth of experience for any Prime Minister to tap into.

Ignore Violator. He is what we usually call a "chav"

You think a republic works better? Take a look at your own country, instead of royalty you have a president who is basically treated like royalty without the breeding and as for a landed gentry you treat movie stars as being something to aspire to. I'm not just having a go at Americans, some of my own countrymen are so stupid that they think it is cool to diss the royals. Even France got rid of their monarchy 200 years ago and have regretted it ever since, all they did was create a new elite who have done nothing for the country or the people. Every country has it's own version of a "Caste" system but are in denial about it, at least ours is honest. How many catholic or jewish or coloured presidents have you had, in comparison to wasps? Do you honestly believe that Obama stands a chance? Do you believe Hollywood, that someone from the backwoods who has no education etc.

Honestly before you or anyone else criticises our system, just look at those countries who have removed their heritage and see what they have become! But, it is too late for America now so you will have to make do with the Bush's or the Clintons or given the number of Hispanics in the US maybe Rodrigues or Hernandez next!

Well our constitution need a head of state, just like yours. However it shows how you yanks do not understand our political system as we are not a 2 party state. We have lots of political parties and also independent councillors and MP's. The only problem with the political system in this country is that the Labour party has been fiddling with the system to make it obey what Blair wants. We need the Queen to have the power to remove people like Blair and Brown who are very devisive and dictatorial taking the country into an illegal war with your warmunger president.

Because we need a head of state.

We've had a Royal family for millenia, they are part of who we are.

I for one trust the Queen to govern us far more than I would ever trust a lying scheming little politician.

She is our figurehead, the Royals are our continuity.

You could pull down the White House and replace it with a modern building. But you wouldn't.

Because the White house is a symbol of America and part of your identity.

And thats what the Royals are to us.

And quite honestly, given the choice between The Queen and George Bush being in charge I'll stick with Her Majesty, thanks.

Hey fellow American...don't you think we should get our own house in order before we ask such a question? I wouldn't want to support a Royal family either, but I think our administration is, at this particular time, much worse than England's. Personally, I think the Royals are a goofy bunch, but not any goofier then our President.

I often notice that people in the USA bash the UK because of the queen and royal family.

Cant you just accept that the royal family is a key part of Britain and has been around allot longer than USA itself.

It is a multi party system not that con two party system that you have. Secondly it makes no sense for Americans to vote because it has been decided already

Viz Bush, Clinton,Clinton,Bush,Bush, ...Clinton, Clinton? Whats the stupid point? The people running your country are behind closed doors. Enjoy.

At least the Queen runs ours and we are not fooled at all.
