You mean a wireless router downstairs, and a wireless USB adapter in the computer upstairs.

Sure it can work. I had the same set up except it was different rooms, not upstairs /downstairs.

Do you mean wireless?? Or are you running the rj45 cable from downstairs to upstairs??
If your router is wireless and you have a wireless usb adapter to plug in, yeah it will work, I have that set up now.
If your router is regular, then you need to run an RJ-45 cable to it.

Everything is possible if you have the right equipment to start with. You will need a high booster signal via the router. If you want to get a decent signal to your ubs adapter

Depends on a lot of variables - but I would try it to see if you get a quality signal. I have seen those USB adapters perform amazingly well - but upstairs might be a stretch.

I agree with the first answer. And if the wireless signal is weak, you could always go with the Powerline Adapters (ethernet over power).
