Hi,
If lines are cut off, highlight the ends to see what is missing.
If you really meant to have minus a negative 6/5k, then this is the solution:
To eliminate fractions, multiply by their common denominator of 45 times every term.
-5k.....2.....8....-6k
----..+.--.=.---.-.------
..3......9......1.....5
45(-5k)/3+45(2)/9.=.45(8).-45(-6k)/5
15(-5k).+.5(2).=.45(8).-.9(-6k)
-75k.+.10.=.360..+.54k
-75k.=.350..+.54k
-129k.=.350
k = -350/129 <== answer if - -6/5k was correct
However, that answer was so ugly, I thought maybe the problem was supposed to be:
-5k.....2.....8.....6k
----..+.--.=.---.-.------
..3......9......1.....5
Multiply every term by the LCD of 45 to eliminate fractions.
45(-5k)/3+45(2)/9.=.45(8).-.45(6k)/5
15(-5k).+.5(2).=.45(8).-.9(6k)
-75k.+.10.=.360.-.54k
-21k = 350
k = -50/3 <== answer if - 6/5k was correct
This seems a little more normal as an answer.
I hope that helps!! :-)

- 5/3k + 2/9 = 8 - (- 6/5k)
- 5/3k + 2/9 = 8 + 6/5k
2/9 - 8 = 6/5k + 5/3k
- 7 7/9 = 18/15k + 25/15k
- 7 7/9 = 43/15k
k = (- 7 7/9) / 43/15
k = - 70/9 * 15/43
k = - 350/129
k = - 2 92/129

-5/3 k + 2/9 = 8 - (-6/5k)
2/9 - 8 = 6/5 k + 5/3 k
2-72 / 9 = 18+25 / 15 k
-70/9 = 43/15 k
k = -70/9 x 15/43
k = -350/129 or -2.7132 (4 d.p)

-(5/3)k + 2/9 = 8 - (6/5)k
Multiply both sides by the LCD, 45
- 75k + 10 = 360 - 54k
- 21k = 350
k = - 16 2/3

the lcm of 3,9, and 5 is 45
So multiply the eq by 45
-75k +10 = 360 - (-54)k
-129k = 350
k = - 350/129
