I am having major problems with my 93 Mustang. It is 4 cyl 2.3L LX; auto tranny and the problem is that when I start the car, or I am driving and decided that I must stop...my car does this weird thing where the RPM's move up and down and you can hear the engine sputtering. When I put the car in park, RPM's go back to normal and everything seems ok, until it starts doing that damn problem again. So at a stop light, I literally have to put my car in park and pray it won't cut off. If it does, I just turn it back on again any my car acts as if nothing ever happened. Please help!!

It sounds like you have to have your engine go through the re-idle process, was any work recently done where the battery was disconnected for a period of time? Mine did this and I had to have the idle re-learned. Its easy to do... an easy way to do it is to d/c battery for say 10 min. then hook it back up this resets the computer..go in and start the car and immediately hit the brake and put in drive.. stay still and hold it there for 5 minutes DO NOT SKIMP here, 5 minutes without giving it ANY pedal, just let it idle in drive while holding brake. turn car off with it in drive.. once off put it back in park and wait 10 secs. Restart and instantly back to drive with foot on brake and repeat the 5 minutes.. this should set the idle properly in the computer. Hope this helps

I would first check the fuel pressure and make sure it is within specifications. These symptoms are classic for a dying electric fuel pump.

Good Luck!

you have a vacuum leak somewhere. get some starting fluid and start your engine . spray a fine mist around your vacuum lines and air hoses to detect your leak . stay away from the exhaust system OK

put it in neutral when you slow down to a stop, not park.

Your Lockup torque converter is not unlocking when it`s supposed to. Its sticking and bringing the rpms down really low.

spend the $a hundred or so and get a ford dealership or ford professional to envision it out. sounds lots extra fee-effective than guessing doesnt it? could be tps, gasoline pump, iac or some others...
