4y^3 + 3y + 5 when y = -3:

4*(-3)^3 + 3(-3) + 5

4(-27) + 3(-3) + 5

-108 + (-9) + 5

-117 + 5

-112

Hey,

-3 to the power of 3 would not be positive 27, because you're doing this:

-3*-3*-3

which is equal to 9*-3 which is -27. Two negatives make a positive, but three negatives make a negative. ;)

4 * (-3) ^ 3 + 3 (-3) + 5
= 4 * (-27) + (-9) + 5
= -108 - 9 + 5
= -112
