how long have we had avatars in our mail program??
here at questions and answers what would we click on if we had no avatar or a picture we uploaded to see the options we can now
or options other members see when they clck or hold mouse over the picture
a link with a date etc when avatars started is a sure winner

It is strange but, I have have done a search and can't find any of the information. I did however find something that was interesting about the avatars and Yahoo! Answers.
When they first started Yahoo! Answers in the United States they had a very boring smiley. It wasn't until February of 2006 before they started using the avatars. Here is a link on the article.
