A woman saw a book I was reading on philosophy and she literally said to me, "just what do you think you're doing reading THAT?" I told her that I was expanding my mind. She *tsk'd* at me and shook her head. She proceeded to tell me what a waste of time the book was and how I was messing up my mind, not expanding it.

She was afraid that by reading philosophy that it would give you insight that would tell you how empty and inferior she was. She chastised you out of fear.
