Why does the GOP bash and smear so many vets who served with honor?

Why does the GOP worship their cowardly leaders who never served and who send others to die for their lies?

Since I happened to be along on one of the "excursions" where the boats that we were on were attacked and after which Lt. Kerry was cited for valor, I thought it appropriate to give my recollection of that event. This happened on March 13, 1969. I was assigned as Psychological Operation Officer for the Swift Boat group out of An Thoi, Vietnam, from January 1969 to October 1969. As such, I was on No. 43 boat, skippered by Don Droz who was later that year killed by enemy fire. We were second in line while exiting the river and going through the opening in a fish trap when a mine blew up under the No. 3 boat directly in front of us and we started taking small arms fire from the beach. Almost immediately, another mine went off somewhere behind us.

All boats, except the one hit, immediately wheeled toward the beach that most of the fire came from (a tactic devised by Lt. Kerry, I later learned) and commenced showering the beaches with so much lead, that it could probably be now mined there. The noise was of course, deafening.

Three things that are forever pictured in my mind since that day over 30 years ago are: (1) The No. 3, 50-foot long, Swift boat getting huge, huge air; John Kerry thought it was about two feet. (He was farther away from it than I). I think it was at least four feet and probably closer to six feet; (2) All the boats turning left and letting loose at the same time like a deadly, choreographed dance and; (3) A few minutes later, John Kerry bending over his boat picking up one of the rangers that we were ferrying from out of the water. All the time we were taking small arms fire from the beach; although because of our fusillade into the jungle, I don't think it was very accurate, thank God. Anyone who doesn't think that we were being fired upon must have been on a different river.

The picture I have in my mind of Kerry bending over from his boat picking some hapless guy out of the river while all hell was breaking loose around us, is a picture based on fact and it cannot be disputed or changed. It's a piece of history drawn in my mind that cannot be redrawn. Sorry, "Swift Boats Veterans for the Truth"- that is the truth.

To say that John Kerry or any of us were on that river to intentionally collect Purple Hearts really does every soldier and sailor, past and present, a disservice. We were going up those rivers (with an ongoing casualty rate of 86 percent at the time) on the orders of the same people who approved of Kerry's medals and who are now joining in the attacks against Kerry. Unbelievable.

John Kerry served and reported atrocities that any decent human being with a heart would do. The people that bad mouth him are the same people who think a Vietnamese/Iraqi life is worth less than an American life.

Yes, Clinton did dodge the draft but he also didn't send American kids off to get killed to line his and his buddies pockets.

Bush and Cheney are pure scum, slimy people with no morals or conscience.

Kerry had his film crew. Maybe if you had been around during the Viet Nam era you would have a different perspective on the intricacies of war and the role of all soldiers. Not just the ones that are getting shot at. The majority of Americans did not want the US involved in WWII but we had to eventually go there to preserve peace in America. GOP bashing vets is the most ludicrous comment I have seen. The liberals have been bashing the military for the last 35 years that I know of.

Dumb Concepts: War Criminal. In a time where it is perfectly legitimate to kill, maim and starve people by the thousands, imprison and torture people without charges or trials, destroy billions of dollars worth of private property we must always remember that there are rules. Blow someones arms and legs off with high explosives = Cool. Poison them with Mustard = Now you crossed a line and your no longer a good person. Burn an entire city (like Dresden, Hiroshima, Nagasaki) to cinders killing tens of thousands of women and children = No problem. Bomb a school = You MONSTER!!! Truth is there are hardly any war criminals on the winning side. War criminal is what we call the losers when were not quite done with them yet.

Not even your words huh? Go figure.

Can you name any great presidents that did not go to war? I can name several from both parties. Did Clinton go to Vietnam? Oh wait he dodged the draft like a true leader. He never even served a single day in the military. But none of that matters. You don't need to serve in the military to lead a country. If that were your criteria, I guess that throws out Obama and Hilary. OK. I'm with you on this then.

I wouldn't tout Kerry's military record too much. The man is enshrined in the North Vietnamese Communist Hall of Fame.

(Alright, it's actually a war museum)

But I will accede the man credit where it's due; he did go to South Vietnam.

john kerry did go but wimped every step of the way. google john oneill who debated kerry on the dick cavett show in the early 1970's. he left kerry speechless. not sure and don't care if the others served. the dems are the ones who hate and bash vets, and hillary joins them.

John Kerry spent 4 months in Vietnam. In that short time he received 4 purple hearts which none of the actually required medical attention. George Bush went through quite a bit of training to become a fighter pilot. That is not a job you just wizz bang though. His group never deployed, so he was lucky. What is the point of your question. That John Kerry and Al Bore are losers who may have money, but make it by stealing from others or scamming them?

Serving in the Military does not automatically qualify you to run for office or there would be nobody on the Democrat side now would it. John Kerry can't even get real soldiers to sit next to him. Hillary needs to avoid them all together.
USAF Veteran.

In 1965 if you were in College getting good grades, you could have been passed up and you would have smiled all the way to the students loan bank. So, don't criticize .
