I was hoping my new grass would be grown by now and I need room for people to eat without getting dirty.

'helpme' is right, "kiss your grass goodbye", grab a used roll of carpet from a carpet store dumpster. You might even find a piece that is color coordinated. If not flip it upside down so the natural jute backing shows. RScott

If it not too big of an area that your wanting to cover you could try laying down some artificial turf for people to walk on. They won't get dirty when they are out strolling upon the fake grass, and you can remove it afterwards. If the area is much larger or if your money is short; you could do a combantion of both the mulch along the edges of the synthetic turf. They sell it at places like Lowes and Homedepot. Just look in the area where they sell carperts on the roll. It's usually in the back area of the stores.

A canvas tarp would work well if you can find one. Some party rental places have them. They are used a lot for outdoor weddings. They will charge depending on how big it is and how long you need it, so it could cost a bit though.

If you go ahead and do a tarp it will look a bit cheap , so how about also adding the effect of a fog machine it will give the party a talking point and cover the tarp view over. Will make an interesting and unusal feature.

Pick up one of those inexpensive tarps that come in blue, or green and in many sizes. Use landscaping nails to tack it down. These "nails" are about 6 to 8 inches long and won't stick up to create a trip point. You will find them in the garden department. Save the tarp for other projects later!

Well, if you HAVE to throw this 'party' , then kiss that new grass , " Good-bye ! "
Flooring ? .... get the biggest, cheapest sheets of thin plywood you can find .
Remember, they only have to last one day/ night .
