I definitely think so!

It was unique, creative, spunky, and he was so darn sexy! I hope the Academy realizes the great talent here. Do you think John's Edna is "big enough" to win an Oscar, or anyone from Hairspray for that matter?

Do you think Hairspray might take another award as well?

My vote is for John Travolta or Johnny Depp (Jack Sparrow).

Who are you hoping for?

I'm glad so many of you feel the same way I do about John's Edna Turnblad! And I don't know about you, but I think it'd be a breath of fresh air if John Travolta won! A lot have you have given really good answers, thank you!

Sorry if I insulted on my "gay" comment. I apologize sincerely. But let's focus on the question, shall we?

Yes.
John Travolta did a great act as Edna Turnblad. He sounded so much like my friend's mother, whom is from Dundalk, MD(an inner suburb of Baltimore).
All the Baltimorese he used, it was good too.

I doubt either will win an oscar, they rarely do for comedy. Kevin Kline as best supporting actor for Fish/Wanda was a big surprise.
John has a slim (every pun intended) chance in that it just might be "his turn", he's had such a fine career.

Hairspray has a chance and I'd love to see it win Best Picture, it's hard to say. It is brilliant in it's positive message of racial advancement in the 60's ...and today.
Chicago had so many dark overtones that it seemed more like "art". Maybe Hairspray will win in some of the other cats.

My wife and I loved "Hairspray," and Travolta's performance was inspired -- just terrific. I think the movie and its cast and others responsible for bringing it to the screen will win many Oscars and other awards for it.

She also loves Johnny Depp, so she'll probably be conflicted if it comes down to a contest between Depp and Travolta for the Best Actor Oscar, but I believe we'll all win either way.

No. I do not think either Travolta or Depp will be receiving Oscars this year. I loved them both in their roles, but it just seems like if I love someone it is the kiss of death for them. My choices never win.

What? I don't think he can act! He and Depp both try to hard, streach too far. If you were to over look the looks you would see the same thing at your niebor hood middle school, Unless you are a heavy every day drinker.lol

He was endearing hear and there, but overall kind of lame and too subtle.

They really should have cast Harvey Fierstein. He was just magnificent on Broadway, and he has enough film credentials.
