is it possible that the thermostat is acting up?

Check your blend door operation. Cycle the temperature selector to FULL COLD and then to FULL HOT and listen carefully for a change in airflow. If you don't hear any change, the blend door is not functioning, which could be caused by a faulty blend door actuator, the temperature selector failed, or wiring to that circuit faulty. Hope this helps.

If the thermostat was 'acting up', you would see it on the temperature gage. I would be more inclined to look at the dampers in the ventilation ducting under the dash or the mixing valve in the hot water hose before the heater core.

CHECK ALL THE A/C AND HEATER DOORS FOR OPERATION BOTH FOR MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC A/C SYSTEMS.

COMMON PROBLEM IS THE REAR A/C HEATER ACTUATOR MOTOR IS BAD OR STRIPPED OUT.

VERY BIG JOB AND YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE PASSENGERS SIDE AIR BAG AND LOOSEN THE DASH ASSEMBLY AS WELL.

TRY FINDING AN INDEPENDENT SHOP INSTEAD OF THE DEALER OR A CHAIN STORE BECAUSE YOU WILL BE OVERALL MORE PLEASED WITH THE FINDINGS AND THE SERVICE.

tstat or blend door like ford girl says. sometimes if the blend door actuator is acting up you can hear a "clicking" from the area to the right of the radio when the lever is moved thru the temp range.

Is the coolant level full? If so, then you may have a bad heater control valve. I believe they work off vacuum, so it could be a vacuum leak also.

good luck.
