I've had the computer for a few years now, but it's not that old. It's a regular monitor, not a flat screen.

Sounds like you have either put something magnetic close to the monitor, or moved it.

Try degaussing the monitor.

The monitor will perform a degauss cycle every time it is turned on. There is usually a degauss option in the OSD menu too. The caveat is that it takes about 20 minutes for the degauss circuitry to cool down and perform another effective degauss cycle. The monitor does not need be turned off but you need to wait 20 minutes between degauss hits.

monitor is going bad most likely. time for a lower power consuming lcd.

is there a printer beside it or any kind of speakers or anything wit ha magnet in it? If so move it away!
