The air conditioner in my car is not cooling, yes on the first day of spring my airconditioner decides to **** itself. So anyway I was told by the mechanic when I got a new compressor put in in 2005 that I wouldn't need to re-gas my a/c again.

Does that sound right, or have I misunderstood what was said to me?

Or could it be something more sinister?

Let me get it straight. In 05 you had a new compressor put in and now it is not cooling. You have developed another leak in the system. Take it in and have it looked at and have the leak repaired. If the system is in good condition, you should not have to add freon to it. It should be like your refrigerator.

Sorry to hear you have a problem, this time it may something a lot easier to repair than the compressor. good luck.

Yes. I bet that "sinister" mechanic came and stole your refrigerant. Obviously you have a leak somewhere in your system. And when he said you wouldn't have to "re-gas" he should have been kicked because any A/C system can develop a leak at any time. Bottom line go and have some tracer dye put in the system and have a good shop check and repair the leak for you.

I'd just go buy a can of 134a refrigerant at your local Wal-Mart and fill it up yourself they only cost like $9.99 never mind a shady mechanic. As for a leak ya right thats the oldest mechanic trick in the book. You must be a woman.

How is this the first day of spring? Are you in Australia? I've always wanted to visit there.

It may have leaked out like some have suggested, but honestly it needs troubleshooting. It doesn't need internet posting. We can't see the car, so we can't really troubleshoot it.

well they need to put freon in ti to work or is he a magician that as soon as he put the compressor on the AC will work without freon. find another shop and get a second opinion before you get robbed, because you might not need a compressor it just may need a little filling of your system

Mechanics are really good at covering their butts so he most likely said "You shouldn't have to recharge your A/C". If you suspect you sprung a leak then you can buy a cheap gauge at your local auto parts store and check it yourself. if the gauge reads 80psi to 100psi with the A/C off then it has enough refrigerant.

The mechanic is wrong, a leak can always show up in the AC system.
