It's based on your perspective, quiet simply.
The different birth of thoughts that unifies.
We're the same and we're not.
know what I am saying.
who has ears listen.
No one is better than you.
We just think different.

It depends upon your perception and the state of mind you are in.

Perception is all it is.
I believe that if you are lucky enough to ever have a full glass, when half of it disappears, you perceive it to be half empty, because you are used to having the other half also.
This could be seen as selfishness, therefore: selfishness = half-empty glass.

Then the people working towards their goals (a full glass) will notice every little bit of progress they make, therefore perceiving the glass to be half-full.

I read that there are reasons to believe it was evolutionarily important for human beings to develop optimistic and pessimistic characteristics.

So you need a group of villagers to optimistically go out and explore and kill game, and you need a group to stay home and worry about losing what they have.

The glass is both half full and half empty.

Well if the glass was being filled then it is half full but if it was being emptied/drunk then it's half empty. Simple!

I always thought it was a stupid way to describe your outlook on life as it all depends on circumstances.

My glass is half full, that means i still have something in my glass. If I think it is half empty, then I am wondering on filling it again.

Are you thirsty or not? If not what does it matter?
Drink what is in it and if that is not enough then go to the tap for more water.
Such a simple solution for an optimist. A simple answer to a pessimist.

Personally, my glass is full to overflowing.
I have fought my demons, and won the battle
I put my all into it. Worked for years to reach this point.
Once I could truly love myself, I could open my heart to others.
My life has begun.

A glass is always full. There's always something in there, and such is the same in the metaphorical sense: there is always something going on in life.
