myths like what. There are millions of myths.

watch mythbusters on discovery channel...they got a lot of myths and yes a lot are real.

a lot of myths are based on some reality

Troy was considered a Myth until Archaeologists discovered the ruins.

Cathy (China) was considered a Myth well into the 12th century.

Australia was considered a Myth until the 17th century.

That the earth was a ball was considered a foolish and sinful Myth until the early 15th century.

Gorillas were considered to be mythical, hairy, men until the late 18th century.

It would be hard say any myth has been proven "true" or even likely real. But some "myths" have been linked to certain events or societies, thus adding some sort of truth to them.
Knossos is linked to the Minotaur.
The volcanic eruption of Santorini (Thera) with the legend of Atlantis.
But actual fact is a bit impossible to prove. Stories handed down via word of mouth are generally unreliable at best.

well, this is not exactly the same thing, but it's the closest i could think of. the ancient city of troy was thought to be just part of a story to most of the world. evidence of it actually having existed as well as evidence to suggest that the trojan war really occurred (but perhaps not in the way the illiad describes) has been discovered. here is a link to a article describing this a little further:

the true meaning of myth is that people think that it is real but actually no one has proven it yet and sometimes it obviuosly not even real!
