You're absolutely right. Items that are considered secondary are put to vote by the public. Other issues that Congress thinks may be unpopular with the public are hurried and are pushed through the system quickly before public opposition grows. Call me what ever name you think is appropriate here, but I've seen the Democrats do this time after time.

Because it is accepted wisdom (at least in liberal circles) that Joe Sixpack is really too stupid to run his own affairs. Therefore, all for the good of the "People" it is up to the older and wiser heads in Governement to run our affairs.
Personally I think it is way past time to deliver a swift kick in the keister to remind them that the Bill of Rights starts out "We the People" not we the bureaucrats.

We vote to elect Senators and Congressfolk to office -- and they then do what they want while in office.
The problem is not them doing what the Constitution allows and requires them to do -- its the people who allow Congress to have a 95+% incumbency rate.
The solution is not to stop voting -- its to vote for different people, and keep voting for different people until we find some who will actually do what we want them to.
Vote them ALL out.

When you voted for them you had your say. If they do something you don't like, or enought things that you don't like.....then don't vote for them the next time.
