Jeff:
If he didn't have any more starts this year and he was a starter next year he would technically be a rookie next year.
You have to pitch a certain amount of innings or game

I wouldn't get too excited. Remember Bud Smith? He threw a no-hitter for St. Louis in 2001 as a rookie. After that, Smith only lasted 10 more months in the majors. He hasn't pitched in an MLB game since July 19, 2002. What is he doing now you ask? He's a pitcher for the Long Beach Armada, a team from the independent Golden Baseball League. So, don't get too cocky!

First my Orioles give up 30 runs in a game, now this. Brother...

Oh well, at least it's a great, great story. A young guy doing the impossible and another Red Sox win, making it one more game towards their clinching the division.

Congrats to Clay...

I see many thumbs down in this thread. Must be a jealous Yankee fan whose team pays 70 million for it's pitching staff which sucks more than my hoover vaccuum cleaner.

Well, yes, he IS a rookie. Everyone starts as a rookie.

But enough; DANG!!! what a performance. The last tall Texan the Red Sox broke in never did better than a one-hitter.

And next week he gets to try for the Vander Meer record. lol

And the magic number went down by one. :)

Magnificent start to September... let's have it last long into October.

I fired up the XM and listened to the last inning. Loved it. The Fens must have been rocking tonight (and no doubt the neighborhood still is).

First Start: 6 innings, 8 hits, 4 runs (3 earned).

Second Start: No-hitter.

Amazing.

Clay Buchholtz.

The cheering Theo Epstein and crew knew they made a great choice keeping him in the farm system.

Now all we need is another WS ring, to make the Beckett/Lowell for Hanley Ramirez trade to gain instant gradification.
