Hey everybody! I'm looking for a new computer now cause my old one sucks. I was just wondering if there are any computer that is under $400 with at least a Intel Pentium 4 processor, 1 gig of RAM, and a good graphics card, not those cheap built in ones (I'm looking for any in the nVidia GeForce 7 series). Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!

You can get a Compaq/HP or the likes on sale/rebate from one of the big box stores for that price, but you're not going to be able to play games on it.

You can build a low-mid level gaming PC for that price through newegg and other websites.

Something like this:

$70 - AMD X2 dual core processor
$70 - Biostar TForce motherboard
$70 - 2gb DDR2-800 RAM
$20 - Basic case with room to hack/add 120mm intake and exhaust fans
$55 - 250gb Sata 7200rpm hard disk
$120 - x1950pro graphics card (best card for the dollar)
Look at the blue lines, x1950pro VS 7900gs

$40 - FSP 400watt power supply
$30 - DVD burner (your choice on brand)
$20 - 120mm fans, sata cables, etc.

As it is, it would play most games at high'ish settings at 1280x1024 res.
The AMD CPU can also be overclocked a bit with the Biostar motherboard and stock cooler.

By the way, Pentium 4's aren't even sold anymore and were the crappiest Intel processors ever made. Their new Core 2 chips are actually based on a laptop processor decended from the Pentium 3...they completely abanded the P4's design architecture.

You will have to build one yourself.

Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 = $125.99
MSI Q965MDO-FI = $94.99
GeForce 7900GS = $119.99
Antec P150 Case + 430W Powersupply = $139.99
WINTEC AMPX 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-800 = $79.99
Western Digital 160GB SATA = $59.99
LG Black DVD Burner = $27.99

That comes down to about $650. If you REALLY can't afford this, consider changing the processor to an Athlon64 X2 (you will need to change motherboard as well if you choose AMD) or Pentium D and getting something like a 7600GS instead.

Please don't make the mistake of going cheap or quality.
When you go with any of the lower end computers they are built cheap with 2nd rate hardware.
Spend the little bit extra and go with the best.
