Time it and if it's regular for an hour, 5 minutes apart, come to the hospital.

Braxton- hicks contractions, early labor, your body getting ready for real labor. Real labor pains really hurt - like you'll wish you were knocked out during real labor pains...it will be a 15 on a pain scale of 1 - 10.
But, you should follow your doctor's advice (and/or nurse's) - when they say to come in, go.

If it stopped, I doubt you're in labor. Still, call your ob/gyn. Good for her/him to know what's going on. Then, if the doc thinks there's a problem, they can tell you what they want you to do. Communication at this time is important.
BTW, when I was in labor with my 2nd, the nurse told me to wait to go to the hospital (1/2 an hour away) until the contractions were 5 min. apart for an hour...or until I couldn't walk or talk through them. I waited one more contraction (about 5 minutes later) and went to the hospital. We were there for about 1/2 an hour before my daughter was born. Glad I didn't try to wait an hour.
If you're concerned, ask your doc or go to the hospital. They can hook you up to monitors and see what's going on. Good luck.

I don't want to keep you home if you are in labor, so if it keeps happening or gets worse, ignore what I'm about to say and call your doctor! That said ... when I was pregnant with my second, I had sharp pains around my belly button quite often for most of the pregnancy. They were so painful! I talked to my doctor about it, and she attributed it to the baby kicking me, and she said it hurt so much because my uterus was stretched thin (or something like that). So, for me it was nothing; but I did have it the whole time. If it's a new thing for you, you should listen to your bodily insticts. Good luck!

First, no matter how many great opinions you get here, you need to check with your OB / an OB-RN or the hospital / labor dept where you will give birth. It could be something as simple as not drinking enough water or having gas...better to have the decision rendered by a licensed professional than worry yourself sick.

my wife says random pains are normal. her first sign of labor was lower back pain when we had our son. she is currently 29 weeks along with our second child and she is often reporting strange pains to both me and her doctor. I would definitely report this on your next visit, but I don't think you have a whole lot to worry about.
