I want to do a purse with special things on it, and no one has it anywhere (and sorry don't want to give it out for fear of copycat) and was wondering do I HAVE to HAVE a patent, and license. It would be a purse for making life easiter and convenient. No special names, or trademarks or logos necessary.

I mean I don't have $7,000 to spend on a patent, and attorney and other etc......

Tell me do I still need one?

It would be unlikely that you could get a patent for a purse, regardless of the "special things on it," unless those "special things" somehow alter the basic concept or function of a purse.

More likely you'd be looking at a trademark or some type of copyright on your design.

A patent protects an invention -- process or procedure -- and prevents other companies from doing the same thing.

A design -- such as for a purse -- would be protected under copyright laws for trade designs -- very different than a patent, though sometimes both might apply.

Of course, you can always choose not to protect your design -- but that reduces the options you have if someone duplicates it.
