Here's the greatest problem of cognitive dissonance today. Democrats who say they are the "representative of the working class" yet despise everything about the working class. Gun rights, man/woman marriage, immigration control, bad sitcoms on tv, cheap black art posters, trailer parks. The best way to end cognitive dissonance is to leave the Democratic Party, or have you already?

I wonder what cognitive dissonance is? Psycho babble? Or some real concept that I haven't heard of?
Cognitive = to do with the thinking
dissonance = unpleasant sounding, out of harmony. . .
Ergo: Cognitive dissonance = I have "thoughts that are unharmonious"
OK. So. . .
How to resolve that?? HHmmmmm
Restructure my neurons? Without a lobotomy, that is hard. Or maybe take a pill for depression? That could help, but the dr Rx may or may not work.
Work to change my attitudes and actions by my own effort. . .
Obviously, that is it! I must change. I will ask a trusted friend for advice about my behaviors and ask for genuine advice that I will then follow.
Problem solved.

If cognitive dissonance is having two conflicting thoughts or acting in a way that would conflict with your beliefs, then the way to rectify this would be to address the behavior. If your belief is that honesty is the best policy and you have just lied to someone, this is cognitive dissonance.
Therefore, you would need to think about how you are thinking (the definition of Cognitive). Why did you lie? What were the underlying reasons? Was it for self preservation or just pure laziness?
So, if this is how you would approach cognitive dissonance, then cognitive therapy or dialectical behavioral therapy would be the best approach (using a behavioral modification or retraining approach). By utilizing one of these modes of therapy, you would be able to redesign your behaviors to match your belief system.
