Yes. I replaced an entire engine on my own.

I figured if I took each piece out in order, I can put it back in reverse order. And it WORKED. I took pictures and drew diagrams. I put tape on each piece and numbered them in order too. I kept track of all of the nuts and bolts, by putting them in cardboard cut-outs associated with the parts they belonged to.

Although I had to do a few extra things, like torquing the bolts properly and making sure that the spark plugs were in the correct order, and finally pre-lubing the engine with a drill motor, to act as a oil pump.

But yeah. It actually worked.

Yes, I used to do it all the time when I had alot of time on my hands. These days I find myself too busy or just want to do my hobbies and have fun, so I let the auto places do it.
But I have changed spark plugs, fuel filters, oil filter, air filter(which I still do...too easy). I do top off the oil, windshield fluid, brake fluid, radiator, battery, etc. I try to do the easier stuff b/c it saves money. Let the mechanic do the hard stuff

Yeah, lots of times. After I had to have a car fixed the first time I had one, and let a mechanic do it, they ripped me off. After that, I learned how to do certain operations myself. I can, and have:

Replaced or fixed generators, alternators, radiators, main pulleys, head gaskets, valve gaskets, starters, brakes, dashboard instruments, wheels, shocks, fuel lines, brake lines and cylinders, windows, fuel pumps, water pumps, thermostats, etc.

I wish I were mechanically inclined. I'd love to repair my own car.

Yep, my power steering wasn't working and I had to really crank the wheel. So I filled it up with power steering fluid. : )
