Is it worth buying a P4 DELL mother board just to get Windows XP for free?

I already have a home-built PC with the P4 chip in it at 2.8gHz All I need to do is swap the motherboards. I have everythijng else.

I own a legal "OEM copy" of a DELL disk that only works on a DELL motherboard, which should have an embedded CD-Key in the bios.

So, if I buy a Dell motherboard for about $25.00, I can have the latest version of Windows XP SPK2 and all of the available update from microsoft.

This disk has worked on my buddies Dell laptop, and a friend's DELL desktop. Both which have crashed or were corrupted by viruses.

Okay this is something you can do, get a motherboard with the northbridge and sputhbridge you want. Install windows XP on the system and install the updates (no hardware). Then put the hard drive to a real motherboard. This way you can save on not having to get the windows XP cd, but to do updates you would need to plug back into the Dell motherboard. The only thing is Dell motherboard does not always work well with other things, like powersupplies. There are custom firmwares out there to load onto the BIOS. Or just leave the Dell motherboard.

I would not advise it. The better solution is to go on google and search for OEM copies of Windows XP. OEM copies can run on any machine what you have is a vendor modified version of Windows XP and will run about half the price or less of the retail copy.
