I need help with wire-wrapping an eye pin. i know it's easier with just wire, but I would rather use an eye pin. Anyone know how to make it easier to wire-wrap an eye pin?

And also anyone know any arts-and-crafts stores that include beads and jewelery making materials other than Michael's in Richmond, BC, Canada?

You will need a thinner eye pin that what you probably have. Get a good long one that's about a 24 gauge and it will be a lot easier.

As for purchasing beads, DON'T buy from craft stores unless you have to!!! I find almost everything I need on eBay, much cheaper (yes, even with shipping charges). If you want some really great deals, type in "lot beads" in the search box and you will pull up larger lots of beads. Lots of people bought a ton of supplies and then decided they don't like it and are selling their stuff. You will get a lot of supplies for a fraction of what they're worth. Just start sorting and saving the beads that you don't like that you get with these lots and when you get enough, put your own lot up on eBay to fund the new beads!

You can find the thinner gauge eye pins on eBay, too. I'd go with a minimum of 2 inches, probably 3 or 4 would be better.

Good luck!

So you want to wrap a separate piece of wire around the shank of an eye pin, is that right?

If so, to make the eye pin shank stiffer and easier to wrap, just hold the eyepin (tightly) *close to where you're wrapping*... you'd have to move your holding hand more frequently though to add more revolutions (perhaps every 2-3 wraps) than if your hand were farther down the shaft.

There are other links and lessons for doing various things with wire on this page of my site, if you want to check them out:

the link I gave you is for wig jig and can use to wrap your own wire. in the long run it would be cheaper to do this with the wig jig since you can make what you need.

you can also search yellow pages and just put bead supplies and your zip code and places around you will come up
