I spent some time in a psych ward during an psychotic episode I had really powerful haptic (tactile) hallucinations along with auditory hallucinations. I would like more information on the subject and to learn how to avoid future episodes but my online search has been pretty inconclusive and books have little to say on the subject. Please help me find informative articles and resources.

I can find articles on crawling sensations but ehat I experienced was on an intirely different level. The auditory hallucinations would suggest that they punched me in the mouth and i would really feel it. Once I couldn't move and then I just started bending backwards untill I was at a 90 degree angle. The hallucinations were intense enough to make me orgaism even. I am dead serious and also wasn't on any drugs when it started and only took prescribed ones.

Keep in mind that science is not exact: treatments, tests and even definitions are based on theory that may be disproved or just changed in the future. If you suffered tactile hallucinations it may have been a side effect of medicines you received as treatment, it may have been an allergic reaction to a combination of exposures you had or it may be your body reacting to stress your mind could not manage. If those treating you acted less than professional, coping becomes more difficult and mental stress may be compounded.
“Psychosomatic disorder, now more commonly referred to as psycho-physiologic illness, is an illness whose symptoms are caused by mental processes of the sufferer rather than immediate physiological causes. If a medical examination can find no physical or organic cause, or if an illness appears to result from emotional conditions such as anger, anxiety, depression or guilt, then it might be classified as psychosomatic.” From Wikipedia

As a trauma nurse I have had patients that felt water dripping down their legs (when it was not) that was caused by pinched nerves in spine. Also had patients feel other sensations due to other pinched nerves.

Without more information and known tests done to rule out a physcial cause it is hard to make a legitimate judgement/guess.

If you want more definitive information on what you may have experienced ask the psychiatrist that treated you about the medications you received and what he feels was the cause and ask your own physician if that person is one you trust and will spend time with you to help you understand what happened.

What type tactile hallucinations? auditory...inside or outside the head? I wasn't going to say it, but somebody else did. Tactile hallucinations are often associated with drug use as are auditory hallucinations "inside the head".

Tactile Hallucination are usually associated with drug withdrawal. Auditory can be just plain ol' psychosis or withdrawal, too.Be careful, take your mets, listen to your therapist and be kind to yourself. Don't take or smoke anything else. Take care.

You need an expert. Seek out a psychiatrist that has experience in the area. They would be the best source of information.

No 'loss' of thoughts purely area for a individual to go with to react on them or not. without that area one is a slave to emotion and could do regardless of action compliments the emotion. you're saying "people" seem fake to you. now, yet did you recognize that that is all ONE? There are not any "you" and "them" all is ONE as life.

Tactile hallucinations are very very rare. I really doubt that there is any information available.
