High taxes, low quality health care, long waits for service, and the government running the system. Those are the cons...I don't know of any pros.

There are pros and cons on both sides. We are the wealthiest country and yet we still are controlled by big corporations. Even Iraq had Universal Heath-care before we got there. There is no reason Americans shouldn't have health care except for greed. Many people have lost everything they have because of illness. If you are one of the lucky ones you get insurance with your job. If you don't have a job, you might be able to get it from the government. What about all those hard working people in the middle, they lose big time. Most Americans make to much money to qualify for government sponsored heath care but can't afford to buy their own.

Depends on what you mean by universal health care. Mitt Romney's version, Hillary's version, or Barack's version (many others, but they have the current headlines.)

Out of those many more pros to Mitt's and less cons for Mitt's

In general most "Universal" health care solutions are not good.

Every goods demand is regulated somehow. Most of the time that is by price..........but if the government gives it out for free then the good has to be regulated in other ways. Most universal healthcare is regulated by lines.

Is that bad? Some don't think so, but it is definitely not a very efficient way to supply a service (I think of pictures of breadlines from pictures in communist countries),

Consumer driven health care is the way to go. It scares some people, but most of the legislation that would move us in that direction is gentle enough that it will work very well. Lower cost, increase quality and service, and for lack of a better phrase, generally rock.

Well, the advantage is supposed to be that all Americans would have access to health care by putting the government in control of everyone's coverage. It would be funded by taxes.

The con is that the government would be in control of your health care coverage and it would be funded by taxes.

It's a bad idea all the way around. Our health care systems are a mess but this is not the way to fix it. Most big problems in our country are a direct or indirect result of the Federal Government's involvement. To look to the Fed to solve another one of our problems is like looking to Osama bin Laden for advice on peaceful diplomacy. It's a ridiculous attempt by politicians to gain public support. Let's hope it never becomes a reality.

I hope if more people had health care insurance more would practice preventative health care. Presently the insurance companies run the show they have the big $$$ lobby and call the shots.

Pros, diseases spread less, healthier population, doctors make decisions not insurance companies, no more quick 24 hour release for mothers who just had a baby, less insurance company bureaucracy...

Cons, Health Insurance Companies go out of business.

Mostly cons like lower standards, less cutting edge medicine. Doctor shortages as they leave to go elsewhere. Long wait times for appts. Almost impossible to get seen by a specialist. Higher taxes to pay for it all.
