I'm sure I read that somewhere - years ago. I have lived in the Cambridge area all my life (30 years) - so my opinion might be biased - but I am not sure what that says about the rest of the country.

I love Cambridge. It's amazingly beautiful. Stunning really. Everything is so green and calm. The city is just very relaxed the nights out are fun too. The most amazing thing though is the chips and hummus. I spent a week in Cambridge this summer and will be returning, I'm hoping to move near it. I will not be punting again though... I almost fell in the river too. The only downside about Cambridge is how many tourists there were. A massive amount of people just walking around aimlessly.

It is definitely one of the most relaxed and calm cities in Britain.
Having been to a lot of places in Britain myself, I wouldn't say Cambridge is the loveliest, as other places, the Kent area for example, have more history and more things to do.

Cambridge is certainly lovely; I really enjoyed seeing the sites and would love to go back someday. The people are very friendly, if only slightly reserved. The only downside is that I fell in the river while punting! Of course this is only my personal opinion, and I don't know if I would classify it as "the lovliest city in Britain", but it's definitely a wonderful city that deserves praise.
