Hi: I'm new here, and this is my first post...I had to respond, because of your particular question. Quite a few years ago, I first read the poem, "When I am an old woman" (who was the author?---I can't remember). Anyway, LOVED the poem! Then, they made a 'society' out of the whole idea. Doesn't that defeat the whole idea of individualism? And the rules: older women wear red hats and purple clothes..young women wear pink hats and lavender clothes. Well, to each her own; and you really have to do what your spirit tells you. But for me, the whole point of the poem is lost in the society. People want to have friends, though, so I guess if that's what you're looking for, then the club is as good a place as any. But probably not, if you want to be accepted as you are. Sorry if I stepped on any toes....

OK, I admit it, I was a Sweet Potato Queen! (sweetpotatoqueens.com) and had a blast doing that stuff. Met a lot of wonderful online friends. While some were also Red Hats, there was a bit of rivalry there. I joined a Red Hat Society chapter in Jacksonville. Nice women, but not all that much fun and stimulating. I'm sure it was just that chapter. Maybe some day I'll look around up here and see if they have one in this area that's actually tons of fun and would do more that I'd enjoy. It's good for women to have fun groups with people they feel safe sharing with.

I think it is great for Women to have a club like the Red Hat Society. I have met some of the ladies in our local chapter and they sound like they have a lot of fun. After all men have their little clubs and societies like the Masons and Shriners and such so why can't women.

I think their a bunch of fun loving gals:~)
I've been thinking of starting a chapter of my own, though it would be filled with red hats and purple bikini's or bathing suits. It's a beach thing. Possibly a group of women who like to sail, maybe we could even get good enough to enter the sailing races. Could be a boast for the Red Hat Society

I belong to a red Hat Society. It is fun. We get together for
lunches and teas and other activities. Good way to get
to meet people and make friends.

My experience with the Red hat Society is that when they meet in public places like restaurants they are loud, silly, and seem to want to draw attention to themselves....they act a lot like a group of teenage girls in public....they are not "all that and a bag of chips" if you ask me...and you did.

The husbands that are dragged around by those hat ladies look miserable, but the girls seem to be having fun.
