I want to name a son Jude Ezekiel, but our last names starts with a W so the childs initials would spell JEW. Is that ok? (No, I'm not kidding.) Some of my friends say it's a bad idea.

I don't think it's a big deal. It's not like it's a derogatory term or anything. Now if it was something negative, like FAT or NAZI (two middle initials, of course, but I figure it gets the point across ), that would be different. But JEW is not a negative association in the least!

To add another aspect to your dilemma -- as it is -- Jude IS the German word for exactly that: Jew! So if the initials were a concern, the name itself would likely be as well.

I still stand by the fact that "Jew" is by no means a dirty word, and perhaps it's those "friends" cautioning you on the basis of these initials that have the problem. ;)

Hope that helps!

I don't think it would matter. I take it you're not Jewish, neither am I, but what is so damning about initials spelling out JEW unless you're racist or prejudiced? If it bothers you, don't go with that sequence then, figure something else out. I think spelling out COW would be worse! Fretting over nothing as far as I can see! You could switch it around, to Ezekiel Jude, and then call the child whichever name you choose. It's a non-issue really! It'll still be the same name whichever way it's written down! Don't worry!

I work with a guy that initials spell JEW. It is not a problem unless you think it is. Just imagine the child that has initials that spell Allison Sarah Smith (had to give an example), PMS (I know someone w/ this as their initials and they did fine), FAT (and to be over weight), etc. There are much worse out there. It is all on how you take it.

Jude is okay, but i dont really like Ezekiel. if you give your baby a different middle name you wouldnt have to worry about his intials spelling JEW. i dont really think you should give your child a name where his intials spell anything. kids are mean and im sure you dont want your kid to get made fun of.

I don't think that it is really going to matter if his initials are JEW, but your son will get tired of people singing "Hey, Jude" by the Beetles.

It's a bad idea. It's better to avoid initials that spell something, even if the something isn't a bad thing.

Jude would probably be teased throughout life. I love the name Jude and also Ezekiel, but you truly need to think of your son and how he would feel later.
