I just gave my 4 month old cereal for the first time today. I made a 6 oz bottle, put 5 tablespoons of formula in with 1 tablespoons of cereal (in a bowl). When she was done with the cereal I fed her the rest of the bottle.

Its really up to you and every mommy does it differently and every baby prefers it differently..

You can either give your baby the bottle 1st. So they aren'ts starving when youre feeding him the cereal.

You can offer the bottle after the meal, to make sure your baby is full and wash down the cereal.

Or you can offer the bottle next time he gets hungry.

My son is 5 1/2 months and only eats breakfast of cereal and fruit. I always give him the bottle after his feeding to make sure he is full. If i give him the bottle 1st, he'll fuss when i take it away b/c he's not full and i have no time to prepare his meal b/c he's crying.. So it's easier for me to do it this way. But i think in the next couple of months i'll try to give him his bottle hours apart from his meals.. B.c eventually he's going to be weaned from the bottle and needs to get used to eating solids untill he is full.

You still give him his bottle. He gets all of his nutrients from formula or breastmilk still.

Just offer a little cereal with a spoon either right before or right after his bottle. Do NOT put cereal in his bottle! You want him to experience the cereal as actual food separate from his formula/breastmilk.

If he starts taking it well, you can give it to him a couple of times a day.

It should be a very slow introduction. It's not a good idea to add it to his bottle (as they have a hard time regulating what they're taking in that way and are liable to ingest more calories then are needed). Just feed him as you normally do with bottles and try to introduce a couple bites of rice cereal initially once a day, then twice a day if you'd like. Remember to watch baby for signs of not being ready, such as spitting out the food, or signs of disinterest... such as turning his head away. And remember not to force him. He'll eat what he wants when he's ready.

Best wishes.

well how i did it was i gave my baby cereal mixed with milk and a little bottle of milk on the side to wash the cereal down...in hte begining ur baby will make a huge mess and barely eat it..and thats when u finish her up with thebottle....u can also mix the cereal with apple juice or apple sause...my daughter liked this....good luck oh by the way its not good to put cereal in the bottle cause then ur baby will depend on that thick milk to satisfy her and not want to learn to eat soilds

a little on a spoon followed by the bottle. use a single grain cereal, i like barly as rice tends to constipate, make it very thin. only a few spoonfuls to start with to get him used to the texture and the spoon itself. he may take a bit less formula as his tummy will get fuller faster with the cereal.

you need to get him/her used to taking food from a spoon. you have to start out with it as the consistency of the formula and gradually make it thicker. don't push them to eat it at first. just keep offering it to them and they'll get used to it. you still need to give your baby formula until they are a year old along with the cereal and you will also start giving them other solid foods once he/she is used to eating the cereal.

with the bottle, but NOT in the bottle; it just gets them ready for solids, not nessisarily for nutrition benifits; i only do it every other day like 2 tbls

this way they get the feel for the spoon and consitancy of foods

I put a tablespoon in the bottle once a day. Every baby is different though. I just started him on it so I want him to get used to it
