Best guess is late fall, early winter. Cooler, that's a different story and will probably happen next week when a trough shifts the upper level ridge over the west coast out over the pacific allowing cooler air to move south. Sorry about the heatwave, but all bad things come to an end.

Come on California. We've had a cool summer up until the past week or so. It's August and school just started. You know the first week or so of school is hotter than the rest of the year.

You could always go to Mendocino or Eureka. They've had a heat wave there too. I understand they've had three days in a row over 70.

My husband was born and raised in the Sacramento Valley, northern part. He says Halloween is the turning point, with a few minor variations here and there. Until then, you can expect more hot weather. Personally, I hate it and in spite of what the natives tell me, I will NEVER get used to it! I love winter and rain because that is the only time we have clean air around here any more.

Not sure what part of California you are in but central area starts to cool late September, has for years. Nights should be getting cool enough to sleep though.
