Recently with at least three news pieces which were of great importance to all in general, I noticed that I'd read about the three of them pretty thoroughly in Yahoo and even in the latest news on local newspapers in the internet. But was amazed at how many answers I got back from Yahoo community members who'd had not heard anything on local or CABLE NEWS!!!

The questions about these news articles I'd posted on Wednesday and Thursday the latest, which was when I'd read them. But it wasn't until yesterday Friday_and many instances even Saturday_when Cable newscasters began showing these news. To everyone watching it seems it's something just happening, when in fact, it was two previous days that these were known.

One was about contamination to vegetables. I believe if news is put out there as soon as something is known, lots of illness and headache can be spared. And in some cases, lives saved even. Why such tardiness in broadcasting, even when these news have been confirmed?

Simple answer? Because there was no video footage or they didn't have a suitable slide graphic on file. TV is a visual medium. No pictures. No story. It even holds true for local news. That's why you see stories from areas that are thousands of miles away from the local news studio. It's because they had some video footage of the news item.
It cuts the other way too with respect to print media. If the newspaper or magazine doesn't have a bureau in that world capital, they must rely on stringers or some wire service. One of the record holders in that category is the NY Times. In late 1992, President Bush the Elder helped create a free trade economic zone at the common border of Russia, China and North Korea. Four and one-half years later the NY Times decided to do a story about it in their business section!
