If you are asking about a kitchen utensil, then it doesn't matter which one you use, as long as either one is sharp.

If you are inquiring about the greater good, It is a personal matter and even somewhat subjective.

The Darwin Award winners are looked at as helping the human race better itself by removing themselves from the gene pool.
I am sure that they would not consider their loss of life to be for the better good.

If on the other hand, you as a parent see a child (whether yours or not) in mortal danger and sacrifice your life so that they may have one.

As personal choice, I would say yes, the greater good is better, however, in a social setting, due to the uniquiness of ALL the individuals involved, I believe they are one in the same because what is "good" for me may not be "good" for you.........Thus, my greater good may be your lesser evil. How open is your mind? The problem arises out of our own human limits in knowledge. We can only base our decisions on what we know and we do not know everything..........

We all choose lesser evils everyday. But how often do we do anything for the greater good?
"lesser evil" can applied to anything.
"greater good" means society. Like when you do something for the world, like giving to charity.
