Jefferson is under federal criminal indictment, on 16 counts, and could face up to a life sentence even if only half of those are proven. His stance is "innocent until proven guilty". The trial is underway.
Craig committed a minor offense (misdemeanor), plead guilty, and resigned because he appears to have offended some people. The "innocent until proven guilty" doesn't apply because he already plead guilty. But there was no reason for him to leave office, other than shame and peer pressure.

Senator Craig plead GUILTY to charges against him
Congressman Jefferson hasn't nor has he been convicted
personally I think the Dems should force him to vacate
but that's not my decision.
SEE THE LIGHT?

The Republican do not tolerate law breakers (Cunningham for one) and ask them to resign. The Dems allowed Feinstein to funnel billions of dollars of Federal defense contracts, for a war they say they are against, to her husbands companies and all she did was step down as Chairperson of the Appropriations Committee. So when we read on this site about the money weapons manufactures are making think about Feinstein. Reid has his kids on his payroll. Different values and standards.

So right..what Craig did was not at all serous..it was Craigs hipocracy that is at issue..he demonized the gays to get elected, along with the Republicans at large, but was hiding in the closet himself....this the primary reason....as for the thieves, it is p to you Americans to demand his resignation...we here have taken them down for a lot less..

Craig=guilty plea=done over with=asta-lavista from own party
Jefferson= fighting the charges=not proven guilty= no requests for resignation from either party
America=innocent until proven or pleading guilty
let me know if you still don't understand.

There are still some people of value in the Republican camp. Can't say the same about the Democrats.

Jefferson has not been found guilty. Craig pled guilty. There's also the hypocrisy: Craig played up his morality and his anti-gay bigotry. Jefferson never claimed to be more moral than his opponents.

Here is a valid comparison:
Why did Clinton get impeached for lying ABOUT SEX while W Bush lied about the pretext for invading Iraq, ignored the U.N., broke International Laws with "extraordinary rendition" and torture and ignored the U.S. Constitution in approving warrantless wiretapping on U.S. citizens and gets away with it?

Ted Kennedy killed an innocent woman and was re-elected. I think this stuff says reams and reams about the constituents as much as it does the politicians.
