any suggestions for a decent laptop under $1000? i want something that i can type papers, do powerpoints, download music from itunes, and use kodak easyshare software, with wireless built in. i hate my current laptop because it runs too slow. i want something that turns on quickly and opens programs quickly.

If you want a fairly decent laptop and you're on a budget, Dell makes a pretty good system. They have cornered the market for corporate users because of their low price.

However if you are looking for better quality, and you have the money, look at either Toshiba or Sony Vaio.

I am typing this message using a 9 year old Sony Vaio system. It may be old and outdated but it still runs like a top. The only problem that I ever has with it was about 3 years ago when I replaced the original battery.

i TOTALLY agree with talon. buy a mac! i love my macbook. i got it for $1000 apple's refurbished page. the macbook is very fast and if you buy iWork 08, you get capabilities similar to microsoft word and powerpoint.

almost all laptops can do those things---make sure you get at least 1gb of ram and use hibernate mode 2 log on quickly

Have you tried to clean up your "OLD" Laptop?

I just purchased my first Apple MacBook six days ago.... and I Love It! It is very easy to use... built in wireless... itunes... it is great. i love mine.

acer and asus are generally very quick and efficient they sound great for what you want and more..
